Start with the international reference
International wholesale gold is commonly quoted in US dollars per fine troy ounce. That quotation is a reference point, not a ready-made jewellery shop price in Pakistan.
A local calculation must align the international observation and the currency observation to comparable times. Combining an old dollar rate with a newer gold price can create a result that never existed in the market.
Convert currency, weight and purity
A simplified metal-value model converts the dollar quotation into Pakistani rupees, converts a troy ounce into the required local weight, and then applies the purity ratio. For example, 22K represents 22 parts of gold out of 24 in this theoretical conversion.
This produces an indicative metal reference. It does not automatically include a local premium, dealer spread, making charges, wastage, taxes, stones or testing deductions.
- International reference: USD per fine troy ounce
- Currency conversion: matched USD/PKR observation
- Weight conversion: troy ounce, tola or gram
- Purity conversion: karat divided by 24
- Local adjustment: market premium or discount where verified
Why the jeweller quote can differ
A jeweller quotes a specific product and transaction. The quote may include fabrication, design complexity, dealer margin and a buy-versus-sell spread. Jewellery containing stones should be evaluated on net gold weight rather than gross article weight.
Use a published rate to understand the market direction, then ask the shop to separate metal value from every additional charge before agreeing to a transaction.
