Gold is translated into rupees
International gold references are commonly expressed in US dollars. A Pakistan rupee reference therefore needs a USD/PKR conversion. If more rupees are required for one dollar, the rupee value of an unchanged dollar gold price generally increases before local adjustments.
The two effects can offset each other
International gold can fall while USD/PKR rises, or the reverse. The local result depends on the combined percentage effect and any local premium. This is why comparing only one input can produce a misleading explanation.
Use the correct currency observation
Interbank, mark-to-market, open-market and dealer currency quotes are different observations. A published calculation should name the rate type, source time and status, and should not silently switch definitions between updates.
